Gerber Legendary Knives were founded in 1939 by Pete Gerber. Gerber Legendary Knives was started in Portland, Oregon but later moved their headquarters to Tigard, Oregon. Gerber was the first knife makers to collaborate with a custom knife maker. The custom knife maker was David Murphy.
Some history of the Gerber family. They had their own advertising firm in Portland, Oregon 1910 and started out by shipping out kitchen knives during the holidays to clients. These knives became very popular and then the famous Abercrombie and Fitch started selling them in their catalog in 1939. They then broke out on their own that same year and the rest is knife history.
By 2003 they started bringing in revenues of $100 million dollars and became the second leader selling multitools in America.
Gerber has built a solid reputation for making knives and mulitools over the years and in 1985 Pete Gerber was inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame at the 1985 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.
They are also famous for their innovative designs and the materials they use in making their multitools and knives. This is a solid company that will be around for a very long time.
Hunters, fishermen and outdoorsmen are very picky about their knives and multitools when they head outdoors. Having a good knife or mulitool can mean the difference between have a fun, successful hunt or fishing trip and having a horrible trip. I know there were times when I was young and couldn't afford a good quality knife to take fishing and hunting with me. Let's just say it ended being a serious headache trying to gut a fish or the animal that I had killed.
